An analysis of what is happening in the market in face of the increase of graduated professionals arriving in the market year after year.

Evolution or Frustration? 

 

Nowadays in our society more and more people have access to the university graduation, what is very positive but are the companies prepared to work with more and more graduated people?

Does space exist for these people in the market or are we forming a larger number of frustrated people with their professional activities, after five years of expensive studies in order to get the dreamed academicals diploma?

I am not contrary to the superior graduation. I strongly believe that the education is the solution for our country, however I don't believe that the corporations are prepared to work with this situation.

Let’s see:

During my career (started more than thirty years ago) I met  people that worked in “Counts to be paid”. They were people that had probably reached their limit, they had a good job and they were happy.  I met families’ chief that educated their children, they sustained their families and that had a success career. In accordance of what they were capable to reach in function of their formation and economical situation, they arrived up to where it was possible, they had knowledge about that and they were happy.

How is it today the section of “Bills to be Paid” in a lot of corporations?

The activity is delegated to a trainee usually studying Business Administration, that executes the following routine:

He begins the day launching in the system all the bills that the company should pay on that day and he (she) sends to the bank. When the launching is completed, he receives the complete file from the bank. He checks to assure that there was not any mistake nor of companies and much less of values that must be paid.  He sets up a package with the whole material and directs it to a procurator that will be in charge of liberating the payment in the system. Soon afterwards he begins the separation and conference of the documents that should be paid in the following day.

As there is a limit in the time schedule for the payments liberation in the system, it is not rare that this trainee must go to in person the procurator and asks  for the payments liberations and also no rare he has to ear every type of complaints. It is common the procurators to allege other priorities, and to create difficulties for the trainee. This doesn't happen every day, but it happens with relative frequency.  It is also expected from this trainee that he negotiates with suppliers whose payments are in delay, the not collection of fines and It is good that the youth person in charge of this task obtains success in it!

After the liberation of the payments in the system regarding "today" the remaining of the day is dedicated to do the conference and negotiation of the “tomorrow’s payments ".

I ask:

Is a superior graduation necessary to accomplish this activity or is a good training enough?

It is very common if the trainee is good in the accomplishment of the task, to pass the whole apprenticeship period executing this activity, getting lost the main objective of being a trainee that is learning corporative practices, the application of what he is seen in the university and the growth of the future professional through the contact with the business reality.

Many of these trainees need this job to maintain themselves and to pay their university. Do you believe that a  student submitted to this routine is professionally happy? I don't believe.

I don't know the problem’s solution but I know that it is necessary to put in place a clear formation politics in a way to propitiate job rotation to these people, even if they are fantastic in an specific area. When the area’s responsible has persons as one of his personal values the job rotation happens, but this is not the most common.

It is even worse when the person is not studying at an university because a lot of corporations simply doesn’t contract them.

I am not nailing the reduction of the superior graduation but what we see is an accommodation in the corporate universe. It is common an increase in the pre requisites of companies’ current positions in front of the more qualified people offer. Is it wrong? No, but it is only a part of what must be done.

Nowadays, works that were executed by technicians or professionals formed internally in the companies  are executed by people with academicals formation. This people, in the great majority of the times, struggle a lot to pay the school and to graduate themselves.

I hope that this text will provoke a reflection in the people that has people under their responsibility in order to put in place ways to reach the business objectives and also the objectives of growth and formation, especially for those that are in the beginning of their careers.

Having in mind that more and more we will have graduated people in our society, is necessary an adaptation of the administrative routines or at least a rotation program every X months in order to create a real spiral growth in the corporations. As results the people will be proud of what they are doing and everybody wins. Doing that is created evolution instead of frustration..
